Ab workout questions: how many times a week?

If you are doing a high intensity workout, that should be fine. The fact is, most people already have abs, it's just that they are under a layer of fat. so try to focus on the cardio. I find jumping rope is a very simple but effective cardio workout. Referring to your second question, I don't really think lighting would effect the appearance of your abs.
